RIDER AND KRAYE VICTORIOUS AT YORBA LINDA WWPB MIXED DOUBLES

By Lori Yamasaki

Stacy Rider and Scott Kraye came away with victory on Sunday after a weekend of great fun and great scores at the 2009 Yorba Linda WWPB Mixed Doubles Championship.  With a mere 40 pins separating the top two teams of Rider/Kraye and Missy Bellinder/Scott Norton, the title was up for grabs with the lone final match play game to go.  Emotions running high and 50 total bonus pins (10 per each individual match and 30 for the team) available for match winners, the championship was on the line.  By frame six of the final game, it was essentially even.  Rider clutched a final game of 232 defeating Bellinder, while Kraye shot 202.  Although Norton defeated Kraye, the team of Rider and Kraye captured victory.

Stacy wanted to be sure to thank Scott for bowling with her.  “He bowled so great, having come out of the gates with 300 and 804 for the first three games on Saturday and 790 for the first three on Sunday”, Stacy recalled.  She also wanted to say thanks to her family for being there, especially her father who had surgery just the Thursday prior to the event.  In fact, this is the first tournament Stacy’s son, R.J. Davis, watched her win.  Stacy currently works for Linbrook Bowl as a sales manager as well as working with their junior program.  “It was nice to see a lot of familiar faces and old friends this week”, Stacy noted recalling her years of prior employment for Jim and Betty Hornung at Yorba Linda Bowl.   “It was a really fun weekend, bowling with (her childhood friend) Scott, with so many competitive teams, and great scoring”, Stacy continued.

Scott also wanted to thank his partner, his family – especially his Mom and Dad for covering for him in his pro shop over the weekend enabling him to bowl, Jim and Betty Hornung, and Storm for their great equipment.  Scott shared some significant history upon recalling his victory.  He has been successful in tournaments housed in centers run and/or owned by the Hornungs.  Over a decade ago, Scott won a doubles tournament in a San Diego center operated by Jim, as well as a senior event held at Yorba Linda Bowl last month, and now he is the 2009 Yorba Linda WWPB Mixed Doubles Champion.  Along with these accolades, Scott was the PBA Western Region and PCB Rookie of the Year in 1983, winning a regional as a high school senior.  He is also a member of the Orange County Hall of Fame and a past member of the Southern California Bowling Writers Team.  Currently, Scott owns and operates Scott’s Pro Shop at La Habra 300.

On behalf of the Western Women Premier Bowlers, we’d like to sincerely thank Jim and Betty Hornung, Roger Heap, and their wonderful staff at Yorba Linda Bowl for their continued support of our organization.  We look forward to this event every year.  Our next mixed doubles event is slated for July 18-19 at Frontier Fun Center in Fernley, NV.
