This weekend, Tori Carter and Vince Wood took what they had from start to finish.Leading after Saturday’s nine games of qualifying, the duo kept things close till the very end of competition on Sunday to claim the 2008 Yorba Linda Open WWPB Mixed Doubles Championship crown. After bowling together in three previous WWPB mixed doubles events (and making finals in each) they claimed their $2000 top prize.
Tori, taking her second WWPB title at Yorba Linda Bowl, has a total of five WWPB titles.Utilizing a gift from her sister, Robin Romeo, Tori stated, “I want to thank Robin for giving me the balls I used, Brunswick’s Fuse and Zone. She hand picked them from her collection - knowing my game she felt these would be the right ones. The Fuse I used most of Saturday and some on Sunday.Tori continued, ” I also want to thank Rusty Bryant of The Pro Zone Pro Shop located inside Mission Hills Bowl for drilling my equipment not only for this tournament but all of my equipment for the past 10 years or so. If it wasn't for him I'm positive I would not have scored as well as I did. Thanks Rusty for your expertise and great imagination”.Lastly, Tori remarked, “This is the first time (my husband) Jeff has seen me win. We will be married 10 years this November. That was pretty cool having him there”. She also wanted to be sure to thank Vince Wood for being such a GREAT partner.
Tori has worked as a personal trainer for over 10 years.Along with her thanks she added the WWPB, Jim Hornung and his staff at Yorba Linda Bowl, as well as two of her favorite clients, Francesca and Melissa. “They sat behind us for 5 hours rooting us on. Thanks you guys for coming and supporting me it really meant a lot”.Lastly, Tori wanted to say thanks to Nicole Ellison for lending her a belt to wear for Sunday’s finals – Tori will be sure to wear that belt in future tournaments!
Vince wanted to be sure to also thank Jim and his staff along with the WWPB and Ebonite. He has been on Ebonite’s Western Regional Staff since 2000.Recalling the championship Vince stated, “It was surprising to not have a team distance themselves from the rest of the field on Sunday, Dave and Wendy and Ben and Shannon kept it close all day”.
Vince also noted the wonderful new changes at Yorba Linda Bowl. The front desk now faces the lanes and in October of last year new scorers were installed along with new flat panel screens and 42” television monitors. Also from the WWPB - many thanks to Jim and Betty Hornung for hosting another wonderful event.
The WWPB congratulates Tori and Vince on their victory and would like to add congratulations to Vince and his new bride, Kimberly. They are expecting their first child in early October.
